"light the way"

(Originally posted on Instagram. This retroactive post is adapted from the Instagram post.)

I was sitting around and thinking (not in a headache! Phew), when I thought about how back in the olden days, there may not have been conveniences like computers and TVs, but that meant that people had much more time to spend their lives, always moving their bodies, always invigorated, and always surrounded by natural beauty. I've also heard that many studies show that being in a natural environment—soft-edged furniture, indoor plants, etc.—can improve your mind for the better.

So, in this piece, I wanted to reflect the benefits and beauty of living attuned to nature. I especially thought about using candlelight lamps as outdoor decorations, complementing the gorgeousness of the night by not being too overwhelming, and reflecting the way our ancient ancestors must have slept to dim flickering candles instead of jarring fluorescent bulbs.

And so, that led to this! An ancient mountainside highway, complete with orange lampposts. I still need to finish some more coloring, but I bet it will be even more relaxing at satisfying to look at once it's complete. Maybe we can even sit and imagine what it would be like to be on this magical road, in this magical world...What wonders would we see? Wouldn't the air smell so fresh? 🌌

There are quite a few shortcuts, like no shadows and no proper depiction of the glow reaching the road and the mountainside, but those can be made later. For now, I think this is a really good complete piece.
