“White Red White Red Black Red Blue”

published September 16, 2026

eheheh...this is a little embarrassing 😅

You could call it an “artist's rendition” of a scene from the one banned Porygon episode of the Pokémon anime. Ash, Misty, Brock, Pikachu, the giant floating Porygon they're riding, and a dangling Team Rocket are all watching as a bright white light takes over them. Surrounding that light are streaks of violently-bright red and blue streaming out in all directions.

I've been thinking...altogether too much about that one banned Porygon episode, the one that sent children to the hospital you know the one. Over the past year-and-a-half, while recovering my college grades and gaining newfound confidence and control over my life, I've also been in this weird era where I've been achieving all the crazy dreams that were so far out of reach when I was a child. Completing Pokémon games, contributing to awesome stuff, unexpectedly changing other people's lives and not just my own, doing and making things that I used to think were unnecessary or immature to bother doing. All these things...would it be pretentious to call this “real living”?? I'm blessed with time that I had to give myself after suffering through the horrible mindset subconsciously drilled into me that I wasn't allowed to. Everybody deserves all the time and space that they need, and everyone and everything that violates that is a roadblock, whether it be abusers or manipulators or assholes or greedy CEOs or drugs or crippling illnesses. And when there's a roadblock, you have to take a detour if you can, and if there's no other way to go then you have to just ram straight through it. And all the psychos who ram your face into the roadblock and scrape it against it and tell you it's your own fault for the roadblock's existence, are pieces of shit who don't deserve any place in anybody's lives.

...So basically I've been running through a lot of Pokémon dreams lately. Thanks to the beauty that is preservation work, we can see artwork and context that would otherwise have been lost to time. Like the original footage of the first 38 episodes of the Pokémon anime, before 37 of them were edited to tone down bright flickering effects and the 38th was banned from ever airing again. Because Episode 38, Computer Warrior Porygon, is inconvenient to casually watch for...well...reasons, I had the random thought of “what if I made edits to it to be able to see the animation without having to avert my eyes or risk nausea”. And...so...well....

32,806 frames, guys (who am I even talking to?? Is anyone even there??). I spent WAY too much time manually combing through them, meticulously deleting and duplicating and editing in GIMP, waiting up to 4 minutes to re-compile everything into a new video, running that new video through this Video Flashing Reduction tool that Apple made I did not know that Apple made that, repeat cycle for 3 STRAIGHT DAYS and then after that on and off for an additional MONTH to smooth out the rough edges. And it...feels like I overdid it, after all of that. Bu'hey, now you can watch it probably without fukking vomiting. Ye....

I think a big reason why this artwork felt silly is cuz...maybe it wasn't deserved. I just randomly thought of it, and at last I sat down and made it, and I got a bit quirky and experimental with it trying to figure out how to incorporate more line variation and texture into my artwork, cuz I'd like that, don't want my style to become repetitive or visually too flat. Didn't quite work out, but hey, it's only attempt #1. I just hope I can draw more often than I have been lately. Been doing lots of Programming Schtuffs. After spending months doing retro Macintosh stuff and then pausing it to shift to Final Fantasy and then Pokémon stuff, I've now got A Project completed, so you can check that out. Well, it's not really a complete project, it's just a step on the way towards the real final product that is for now a secret shhhshhshshh 🤫

Now if you'll excuse me, *conks out head blehhhhhhh*
